Born from simple beginnings in the heart of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Honest Charley Speed Shop opened its doors in 1948, quickly growing to become the first international mail-order speed shop and the most recognized name in the industry. Honest Charley celebrates its 65th anniversary in 2013, continuing to uphold the values and hometown hospitality it instilled in 1948.

Street Rodder Road Tour–Rust Bucket

Street Rodder Road Tour 2013 by Honest Charley Garage

If you’ve been around old cars very long, you’ve likely dealt with rust. Unless, of course, you’re from Southern California, the land of the rust-free hot rod. Anyway, rust is a big issue for hot rodders East of the Mississippi and we’re up to our elbows in rust on this Street Rodder Road Tour car. It must’ve been a Northern car at some point in its life because it has been patched all over, and then the patch panels have rusted out. A trip to the media blaster had the whole crew in tears, but we’re ready to get this shoebox straightened up and start cutting it up!

Street Rodder Road Tour–The Beginning

Street Rodder Road Tour 2013 built by Honest Charley Garage

If you follow our blog, you saw our introduction to the Street Rodder Road Tour project car. Now, it’s time to get down and dirty with the reality of a very intense project with a tight deadline. In previous Road Tour builds, other shops have gotten the luxury of beginning with fresh sheet metal. For example, last year’s build consisted of a brand new ’40 Ford body. And even though the guys at Hollywood Hot Rods did an amazing job on the build, they definitely got a head start by using a brand new body. The beauty in this year’s ’51 Ford Custom is we’ll be able to really flex our muscles when it comes to metal fabrication, and this thing needs lots of it. (more…)

Honest Charley Builds Street Rodder Road Tour Car

Street Rodder Road Tour 2013

We’re super excited about a build going on at Honest Charley Garage. We are building the 2013 Street Rodder Road Tour car! We’ve been keeping our lips sealed for nearly a year, because of contractual agreements with the magazine company, but the articles are now being published monthly in Street Rodder, so we’re free to start documenting the build here on the blog. The car is a ’51 Ford, and our task is to take a rusty pile of junk and turn it into the killer custom as shown in the rendering. (more…)

Chattanooga Cruise In–April 6th, 2013

Chattanooga Cruise In 2013

We try to tell all of our buddies, so we can all get together and have a good time. We’re at it again this year, and our first Cruise In event of the year will be held Saturday, April 6th, 2013, from 2-8pm EST. (more…)

Around the World in a Deuce

Clay Miller 1932 Ford Three Window Coupe by Honest Charley

If you follow along with Honest Charley, then you have probably heard of Clay Miller and his world-traveling ’32 Ford coupe. We built it here at the shop using all Honest Charley parts, including a hot Flathead, Brookville steel body and a Pete & Jakes chassis. Clay had intentions of doing long-distance rallying with his three-window coupe, and he did just that as soon as the car reached completion. (more…)

Winter is NEAR

Hot Rod Heater from Honest Charley Speed shop

And we’re already shivering! Let’s get one thing straight…hot rods are great in optimal weather conditions, but it gets cold real quick here in the Tennessee Valley. We have fought with stock heaters and tried to come up with our own creations, but this little universal unit is certainly our favorite option. It fits in most street rods, and it works flawlessly!

Chattanooga Cruise In September 2012

Chattanooga Cruise In 2012

Last September, we tried our hand at hosting our own Cruise In right here in Chattanooga, Tennessee. We considered it a great success, and decided to do it again in 2012. Our April event nearly doubled in size with 500 cars in attendance. For the September 2012 Cruise In, we seriously upped the game, and worked hard to spread the word about our event. Well, it worked! We had more than 700 cars here, along with a couple thousand spectators…without question, it was overwhelming, but we had a blast and plan to do even more events in 2013! Check out our photos and keep an eye on our website and Facebook page for more information about the upcoming events!

Cruise In at Honest Charley Sept 29th!

Coker Tire and Honest Charley Cruise In 2012

In case you haven’t heard, we’ve teamed up with Coker Tire to host a huge Cruise In twice per year. Our April Cruise In was a major success, with 500 cars in attendance, so we’re doing it again on September 29th! We worked hard to choose a date that didn’t conflict with other local cruse ins or car shows, so we’re hoping for an even bigger turnout this time around!
